Michael Swartzbeck's

The theme of this exhibit was arrived at totally by accident, after I was well into the process of creating the next batch of collages.

I was just working off the top of my head, sort of enjoying the aimlessness of creating without goal orientation after all the time and work that went into getting Urban Light4 online. After five or six pieces, though, I started noticing that they all somehow seemed to wind up evoking spiritual or religious ideas and symbology. It just sort of evolved that way, and that type of imagery kept on coming in one piece after the other.

These collages were created with Adobe Photoshop on Macintosh computers, from original photographs and found images and objects, between September 1996 and November 1997. All original photos were shot in the Washington, DC Metro area and in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware with an Apple QuickTake 150 in the spring and summer of 1997, with the exception of the images in Annunciation no.3, which were shot on 35mm in Mexico City, Mexico in October 1997.
